August/September 2006 Fishing Report:

The summer season ended with record numbers of tarpon feeding just offshore. Some of our ole timers said that they had never, ever seen more tarpon in this area. One unusual catch was a Giant Goliath Grouper caught off our reef just 4.5 miles from the mouth of the Rio Parismina. Dennis Toll from Sanibel Island, Florida fought this monster, which weighed in at more than 300 lbs. This behemoth broke our Chatalan scales and was so
long that it tail dragged the group by over a foot. We took one photo with three guys all of whom are over 6'1" and they look like dwarfs next to this monster!!!

Our fall season started off in August with our group of Texas A & M Aggies hosted by Stormy Kimery. They had a great three days of fishing. Literally tons and tons of tarpon were caught in these three glorious days.

Stormy's group was followed by Jim Wiensch and his son Adam of Wisconsin who also had record numbers of feisty tarpon, plus some snapper, and a nice Snook for Adam caught in the surf.

The Ensley group from Kansas city left on the 16th of Sept after 7 exhausting days of fighting these mighty Tarpon. After only two days in the ocean they were all ready to fish our backwaters!! They have already are booked for 2007 for the very same week!!

Right now we have the Frank Priebe group mostly from the Chicago area, Florida and Colorado. The very first afternoon, only 3 hours of fishing they jumped 100 Tarpon for 7 boats!!! Now that is really Tarpon fishing! The top boat had 23 Tarpon in the air--incredible! All the anglers have enjoyed calm seas for the past month and blue skies.

Our fall season is shaping up to be one of the very best ever!! won't soon forget! Call our office at 1-800-338-5688 Come join us for a fishing vacation that you

May/June 2006 Fishing Report:

As usual May brought calm seas, huge schools of bait fish and enormous
schools of feeding Tarpon. This year we had a special bonus of hundreds and hundreds of torpedoing Big Eyed Tuna and Yellow Fin Tunas. One day the Jim Grandt group from Chicago boated over 70 tuna ranging in size from 30 to 60 lbs and 15 Wahoo This is not counting the dozens of big Tarpon. This spring seemed to produce monstrous sized Tarpons too! Lots of fish in the 120 lbs to 150 lbs range-Quite a battle. Dennis Toll of Sanibel Island Florida hooked a nice Mutton Snapper off the "Little Rock" only to have the Snapper devoured by a Goliath Grouper which weighted in at way over 300 lbs. We could get an accurate weight due to the length of this monster. The seas are calm right now and the Tarpon are biting. Yesterday morning the average catch per boat (boated Tarpon) was 6 fish to the boat with lots of other hook ups, quick releases and broken lines! The seas are calm and the bite is on. Right now we have 14 anglers in camp from South Texas all are having an absolute ball. Between the Tarpon, the Crocodile Hunt, and the nesting sea turtles everyone is looking forward to our middle-of-the-day siesta!

April 2006 Fishing Report:

The month of April held true to form this year with all but three days
with very calm seas! The Tarpon fishing was fantastic! Giant schools of
tarpon were very near the river mouths. Several fish were taken that were
estimated to have weighed over 150 lbs. Tuna, Wahoo and Sailfish were an
added bonus. One Yellowfin Tuna weighed in at over 80 lbs!
Cubera Snappers are hitting around the rock and the Jack Crevalles are
ever present! All in all April was a fantastic month! Anglers left the
lodge with sore muscles, and huge smiles!

May has started off with a bang too! Yesterday, May 4, 2006 Tarpon were
hitting like crazy and Big Eyed Tuna, Yellowfins and Wahoo were abundant.
One boat caught 5 Tuna and 3 Wahoo in 1.5 hours only 4 miles from the
lodge. Now that is fishing!
Seas are calm and the skies are sunny!

August 2005 Fishing Report:

Back in the saddle again and the lodge is in full swing. The fishing
report for this past month of August can only be described as FABULOUS!! It really doesn't get any better than it has been. Lots and lots of sardines and tons of Tarpon right near the river mouths. The ocean conditions are excellent with many Tarpon estimated weighing over 130 pounds. We just had a group of 16 Texas A & M fellows and they boated 169 Tarpon in 2.5 days of fishing! They jumped hundreds more! Plenty of action and lots of sore muscles-the river fishing was in order for many of these anglers in the afternoon. We are also having a record turtle nesting season. While these magnificent sea turtles come in every year, this year the numbers are staggering! Don't wait, call our office today and book your next fishing adventure!

May 2005 Fishing Report:

It just keeps getting better and better! Yes, that's right. The Tarpon fishing is continually improving!!! Rio Parismina Lodge has found that using almost exclusively circle hooks with live sardines has improved our hook-up ratio and the numbers landed. Of course, these circle hooks are much easier on our famous "silver kings" as well.

May entered with the world class Jim Grandt Tarpon tournament and his 22 guests were not disappointed. Lots and lots of BIG Tarpon, Big eyed Tuna and Snappers and a bonus of a 218 Goliath Grouper (Jewfish) taken off of our famous reef located only 4 miles off the mouth of the Rio Parismina River. This was the best ever tournament for Jim Grandt's group in over 15 years of hosting his event in Costa Rica.

The month progressed and the numbers of fished continued to increase! We fished everyday in the ocean, morning and afternoons for this May. Hard to believe, but one boat of our anglers boated 13 Tarpon in 2.5 hours in one afternoon!! Now that is Tarpon fishing!

The Snook have been appearing with the biggest for the month of May being a whopper of 35 pounds. I got to slip away last week and fish with my son, Joe Ward, from San Antonio Texas and we hooked and landed more Tarpon that anyone person could want. The Jack Crevalle are ever present as well as some monster Barracudas and King Mackerels. It just doesn't get any better here on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica!

Thanks for your continued support

March 2005 Fishing Report:

The month of March falls right smack in the middle of our spring fishing
season and this year's March didn't dissapoint our anglers! We have had a great variety of fishes. The tarpon have been running larger than normal, lots of tarpon 120 to 150 lbs with several catchs over the 150 pound mark. The boats have been averaging lots of tarpon.

The sailfish showed up about the middle of March as well as lots of nice Wahoo and Big-eyed Tuna. The Snook and Red Snapper have kept the anglers busy too.

The biggest Snook this month was a 25 pounder and the biggest red Snapper has been around 30 lbs. We have also had Cobia, African Pompano, lots of Baracudas, and King Mackerels too! The weather has been great -lots of sunshine and calm seas.

The river fishing as always has been super! Lots of Guapote, Machacas and Mojaras too! One boat caught over 80 Machacas onthe fly in one morning and this past week, one boat hooked over 30 Guapote - Now that's great river fishing! Don't forget to call us and reserve your spring fishing vacation soon!
